Memorial Day Weekend

A slow weekend while most of us are taking a break - the singers and instrumentalists at Northwestern University's Bienen School of Music are putting on a giant show:  Mahler's Resurrection Symphony with "the largest possible contingent of strings,"  25 brass instruments, 17 woodwinds, chorus, soloists, and a ridiculous collection of percussion.  Their performance is free and is given twice - once in Evanston, and again at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion at Millennium Park.

Elsewhere, you can hear local favorite Zachary Vanderburg in recital with bass-baritone Jared Levin and pianist Dana Brown at Chicago Temple.  And Jason Moy's Ment Consort, a DePaul University-based early music ensemble presents a recital in Old Irving Park.
