A light week for events around town. Next week, Chicago will host the NATS conference which will bring with it a special late night edition of Liederstube, a recital by tenor Henry Pleas, and a performance by the Ryan Opera Center with special guest Renée Fleming. There are also a few lovely free concerts by the National Youth Choir of Scotland directed by Christopher Bell which will have listings on this site very soon.
You have a very clear choice for this holiday weekend. You MUST SEE Grant Park Music Festival's performances of The Epic of Gilgamesh, an oratorio by Bohuslav Martinu. Grant Park Music Festival will offer one of the most important sopranos of our time who regularly amazes - Angela Meade. The other featured soloists are Gidon Saks, David John Pike, and Dane Thomas. There are reserved "seating passes" (tickets) available on Grant Park's website and on the days of the performance. But the event is free on the Great Lawn and the back sections of the Seating Bowl of the Jay Pritzker Pavilion at Millennium Park.
