The new class of Lyric Opera's Ryan Opera Center has their biggest outing yet when they take the stage of the Jay Pritzker Pavilion at Millennium Park joined by the top-notch Grant Park Orchestra. Since Grant Park Music Festival does not rely on ticket revenue to be sustainable, they often offer the most adventurous programming in the city. This collaboration with the Ryan Center features orchestrated songs of wunderkind Nico Muhly sung by the gifted mezzo-soprano, Annie Rosen. Also on the program is the entire first act of Carlisle Floyd's Of Mice and Men with tenor Jesse Donner as Lennie Small and Celtic Thunder baritone Emmett O'Hanlon as George Milton.
Ravinia Festival's Steans Music Institute Program for Singers has a track record for capturing some of the most successful singers at the start of their careers including Janai Brugger, Isabel Bayrakdarian, Measha Brueggergosman, Paul Appleby, and Nadine Sierra. This Sunday, we get to meet the 2016 vocal fellows and pianists in their first public concert. As of this posting, the program has yet to be announced, but it's free, so why not check it out?
