Readers of Vocal Arts Chicago will already be familiar with the name of Alsatian-born soprano Nathalie Colas. Ms. Colas is an irrepressible artist who is a favorite of conductors, composers, and other collaborators for her musicianship, collegiality, grit, and for the beauty of her instrument. This year alone, in Chicago, she has appeared in Haymarket Opera's critically acclaimed La Calisto, has performed three distinct recital programs including Wolf's Italienisches Liederbuch with pianist Eugenia Cheng and baritone Ryan de Ryke, launched her own ensemble Petite Musique Collective, and is in the process of co-founding another ensemble with some of Chicago's finest early music specialists Third Coast Baroque.
If opera, song, ensemble singing, and early music weren't enough, this weekend another one of her ensembles Fonema Consort (specializing in newly commissioned concerted vocal chamber music) begins its fifth season with a concert at Constellation featuring their greatest hits. Constellation is a venue where every chamber group should want to perform - with a sexy website and a bar that sells Pimm's cups. A fitting venue for a group that pushes the envelope and gives another outlet for one of Chicago's most inspiring, entrepreneurial, and beautiful voices.
