Apollo Chorus of Chicago: Mendelssohn's Elijah

  • University of Chicago, Rockefellar Chapel 5850 South Woodlawn Avenue Chicago, IL, 60637 United States (map)

As the Chicago area’s premier volunteer choral ensemble, and one of the oldest musical organizations in the United States, Apollo Chorus has been thrilling audiences since 1872. Its 120-plus auditioned members, under the leadership of Music Director and Conductor Dr. Stephen Alltop, include men and women of all ages, races, creeds, and occupations brought together by their love of singing.

Welcome back, Elijah!

With the exception of Messiah, no other masterwork has been performed more often by Apollo in its 144-year history than Mendelssohn's dramatic oratorio, Elijah. And for good reason: few choral pieces offer so much vivid drama, beauty, and imagination.

We are thrilled to present Elijah this season in the magnificent Rockefeller Chapel on Saturday, March 12. Apollo will be joined by the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra, and by distinguished bass-baritone Gerard Sundberg in the title role. Our other stellar soloists will include soprano Michelle Areyzaga, mezzo-soprano Kelsey Park, and tenor Patrick Muehleise.
