Chicago Choral Artists presents I Got Me Flowers - Music of Britten, Vaughan Williams, Whitacre, and a commission by Ed Frazier Davis

Chicago Choral Artists' 40th anniversary season concludes with a program of spring-inspired works rooted in the British choral tradition and expanding to include works of the new American greats  Eric Whitacre & Morten Lauridsen plus a commission by composer and CCA member Ed Frazier Davis.

About this program, CCA's artistic director says:

"I have always wanted to conduct the Britten Five Flower Songs, Op. 47. My goal was to find music that would complement these pieces. Naturally it made sense to look for other pieces that had to do with flowers, such as Whitacre’s Three Flower Songs, Pearsall’s Lay a Garland, and Clements Flower of Beauty. Beyond that, I tried to imagine when it is that things are blooming in the human existence; naturally, I landed on that great subject of love. Schubert’s pieces speak both of love in full bloom and the joy of living together with an intimate circle of friends. Vaughan Williams’ settings of George Herbert’s poems reckon the resurrection to that of a blooming flower."
