An amuse-bouche of stories about food, how it drives us crazy, how it makes us feel, and how it moves through us.
The main course is The Sausage Show, a tale of Sausage Savagery, featuring original music by Lara Golan. What happens when a family linked by their passion for pork finds themselves in Chicago's frying pan? The steaks are high, and there can only be one weiner. The ladies of Forte Chicago will explore the magic of meat, the beauty of burritos, and the desperation of dieting through puppetry, opera, classical music, and greasy spectacle.
Forte Chicago is an all-female group of directors, designers, puppeteers, composers and classically trained musicians. We are an established group of performers who officially came together in early 2015. We strive to train and nurture the members of our group, create new works for female artists, and bring opera to new audiences. We represent a community of artists coping with the excess of talent and scarcity of opportunities for the female classical musician. Highly educated and extensively trained, our group was formed in part as a response to the limited scope of roles for women in the classical repertoire, and the lack of opportunities for female directors, composers, and conductors. The performers in this show are Alex Salas, Amanda Neal, Angela Torres-Kutkuhn, Brittany Loewen, Carrie Kocsis, Kira Dills-Desurra, and Kristen Bigham and our directors are Susan Payne O'Brien and Sarah Bendix.
