Art & Science :: Food & Music is a three-part event, beginning with mixology, cooking demonstrations, and tastings as Chef Yu shares his culinary vision and creativity with the audience. Recognized for his dexterity and flair, Chef Yu will prepare dishes that are inspired by and evoke the unique voice of each singer.
The Chicago premiere of Quantum Mechanic follows. It’s a story of Mrs. Schroedinger, wife of famous physicist Erwin Schroedinger of the equally famous “cat in a box.” As she cooks in her kitchen, her quantum (naturally) refrigerator malfunctions, ripping a hole in time and space. As beings start to materialize from another dimension, she hurriedly calls for just the man to fix it – the Quantum Mechanic. In this new production, Paul Hamilton directs the music, Chungers Kim conducts the 42nd Parallel Orchestra, Andrew Snyder directs the staging, and Jeff Award-winner Kate Setzer Kamphausen is head of costumes.
To conclude the event, the audience is invited to meet the cast and orchestra over coffee and dessert. Says John G. Bilotta of the conception, “This is exactly the kind of creativity and artistic imagination that makes a great operatic production.”
A portion of proceeds will be donated to the educational mission of Peterson Garden Project.
