Lyric Brings Comforts of Home to Mozart's "Flute"

  • Civic Opera House 20 North Upper Wacker Drive Chicago, IL, 60606 United States (map)

Imagine you are attending a house party, and the highlight of the evening is a production completely designed by children.  The child-inspired costumes, staging, and effects are being shared throughout the various rooms of the house to the joy of the parents that are there to observe.  There’s only one catch: if you’ve come to watch, you must join the chorus and become part of the action!

This was the inspiration for director Neil Armfield’s new production of Mozart’s The Magic Flute, being performed for the first time at Lyric Opera of Chicago.  With its brilliant costumes and innovative staging, this new production brings a breath of fresh air to the well-known opera.

Returning to the Lyric stage are standout singers Christiane Karg as Pamina, Matthew Polenzani as Tamino, and Adam Plachetka as Papageno.  The production will also feature the Lyric debut of soprano Kathryn Lewek as Queen of the Night, tenor Andrew Staples as Tamino, and bass Christof Fischesser as Sarastro.  Add in the powerhouse voices of the Lyric chorus, and you’ve got a production not to be missed!

Tickets available at the door or at lyricopera.org.
