Aus der Tiefen rufe ich BWV 131 — Bach Cantata Vespers feat. Haymarket Opera Orchestra

The cantata will be performed under the direction of Grace Cantor Michael D. Costello by period instrumentalists, many of whom are joining us from Haymarket Opera Company and soloists, who will present the entire cantata one voice per part. Soloists are soprano Nathalie Colas, mezzo-soprano Sarah Ponder, tenor Ryan Townsend Strand, and baritone Douglas Anderson.

The prelude to the service, which begins at 3:45 p.m., will be Brescianello's Trio Sonata for Oboe, Violin, and Continuo in C minor, and Bach's Canonic Trio in F Major, BWV 1040. These two works feature Baroque oboist Kristin Olson from New York and Baroque violinist Jeri-Lou Zike from Chicago.

The service of Evening Prayer, which begins at 4:00 p.m., will also include the Grace Choir performing Johann Christian Bach's Fürchte dich nicht. The homilist for the service is Elizabeth Palmer of The Christian Century in Chicago. At 3:00 p.m. Mark Peters of Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights will deliver a lecture in Grace's Seminar Room which will provide background information on the cantata.

There is no admission fee to the Bach Cantata Vespers services, though a free-will offering is received. Parking is free and is available in the garage directly to the south of Grace's building.
